Tomb of the Medić Family

- the Medić family tomb stands as one of the most imposing and artistically daring designs ever created in our workshop. At first glance, it captures attention with its striking, dynamic form — the entire surface of the tomb rises in a gentle arc upward, forming the main structure of the headstone itself. This unusual approach to stone design makes it a remarkable example of contemporary creativity expressed in traditional white Brač stone. At the top of the composition lies a stone cross, the central symbolic and visual point of the monument. Below it, the main slab remains clean and flat, yet is enriched by a relief depicting Michelangelo’s Pietà, a timeless symbol of grief and the connection between life and death. On the sides, hand-carved leaves soften the strict geometry of the structure, adding warmth and organic contrast to the precise architectural lines. The balance between sculptural geometry and emotional detail creates a harmony rarely seen in tomb design. This interplay of minimalism and expressiveness makes the Medić tomb unique — both architectural and deeply human. The tomb was designed in collaboration with architect Ivanka Filipović and stands among more traditional monuments, forming a subtle yet powerful contrast with its surroundings. Its serene sculptural form and refined elegance make it a true focal point of the cemetery. This tomb is a testament to how stone craftsmanship and artistic vision can transcend function, turning the creation of a tomb into an architectural and emotional masterpiece — one that embodies beauty, craftsmanship, and timeless expression.
